Hi all, happy weekend! Some of you know this, some of you don't, but I have a crazy obsession with my skin. Not a good one, I don't think it's perfect. I'm obsessed with getting it to be perfect.
I've never had great skin. Since the time I hit puberty I've been on antibiotics, prescription creams, over the counter creams, you name it, I've tried it. I would go months with beautifully clear skin and then months with lumps and bumps all over.
My skin really hit rock bottom almost seven years ago, at 27 years old (shouldn't I be done with acne???), when I broke out with three different types on acne starting at my hairline that went all down my face and stopped somewhere under my chin and jawline. At that point, I had no choice but to go on Accutane. (Accutane is an intense drug that is used to treat severe acne. It is controversial due to its extreme side effects. I'm happy I was on it, but it wasn't easy. If anyone is thinking of going on it or has a child that is, PLEASE don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. I'm not a Dr. but I am more than happy to tell you my side of being on it.)
I went into an emotional tailspin and hibernated for a solid three months. Sounds dramatic to you? Yeah, it probably was, but when you don't feel the slightest bit good about yourself it can really effect your day to day moods. Especially, when you're 27 and single and working in very face to face industry.
Why did it happen? Not sure...could have been diet, hormones, stress...there was never a concrete answer. All I knew was, I never wanted it to happen again.
Thus, my obsession with my skin being perfect. Now, is it clear and perfect all the time? Unfortunately, no. Aside from prescription creams from my dermatologist (Shout out to Advanced Dermatology, I totally recommend them), I use many products to help keep my skin clear and hydrated that I would love to share with you!
First, I wash my face every morning and night (um, most nights) with a Papaya Enzyme Cleanser by Revision Skincare. This cleanser is rich in vitamins and minerals and it cleanses and clears away dead skin cells without stripping the skin.
Get it here . Also, check it out in person along with other Revision products at SkinFo in Lincolnshire, Illinois if you live in the hood or are over that way. It's worth the trip!
When I'm just flat out too lazy to wash my face, I use Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Wipes. They do everything you want them to do. They remove all make-up and impurities from the day while leaving your skin feeling clean and fresh without drying it out.
I get mine at Ulta. They are also great for traveling, especially if you are flying with a carry-on only.
After cleansing my skin, I put on my prescription creams. I am currently testing Mario Badescu's Aloe Vera Toner before my acne creams, but haven't used it long enough to let you know what I think. After the cream, I use Josie Maran Argan Oil Light, as a moisturizer. This stuff if AMAZING. You can literally use it anywhere. I use it all over my face, my body and hair! Crazy to think that I am putting oil on acne prone skin, but argan oil is all natural and so rich in vitamins and antioxidants that it seems to help! The product specifically states that it's supposed to help battle oiliness, blemishes and dryness. This is a must try, I promise you won't be disappointed. Just remember, a little bit goes a long way!
I always get mine at Sephora. If you enjoy this product, I highly recommend her entire line. I so obsessed!
My last step is applying Revision Intellishade SPF 45. I love this product because it's basically a 4 in 1. It minimizes fine lines, adds moisture, shields the sun and camouflages dark sport, red spots and any other imperfections. It is great to wear alone or the perfect base for your make-up.
I prefer the matte option since I have oily skin. There is an Intellishade Original that gives off a dewy finish. I suggest you pick one or the other based your skin and the finish you want on your skin. I sometimes buy my Revision products LovelySkin.com. They have many different brands on this site and sometimes offer a deal. However, this isn't always the case, so you can purchase it at Revision.com or any other store/site that carries revision products.
In addition to my daily skincare routine, I try to do a facial mask once or twice a week. My favorite brand is BioRepublic. I tried their sheet masks a little while ago and absolutely loved them. I had the opportunity to carry them here at Stilettos and anyone that has tried them keeps coming back for more! We have five different masks ranging from an Aloe Rescue to Pomegranate Crush. Each mask targets different concerns such as anti-aging, soothing, after the sun, detox, and brightening. I switch between all 5 depending on the week I have had and what my skin may or may not have gone through. The eye mask, Lost Baggage, is amazing too. I highly recommend slapping those babies on your bags in the morning after a long night out!
All of the masks BioRepublic has to offer can be found at Stilettos Boutique.
If you've made it to the end of this, thank you for reading! Please DO NOT hesitate to reach out with questions on any of the products!
